What are the best essential oils to use for dry skin?

Updated: May 13, 2020

Suffering from dry skin can be a real downer. But it doesn’t have to be, if you learn how to maintain it. You might have a chronic condition that makes your skin dry, or it could be your lifestyle choices or products that you’re using that are causing your skin to lose hydration.

Whatever the reason is, there are plenty of ways you can use natural healing methods to help you accept your skin and feel a little better.

The more I work with essential oils, the more I realise their true potentials and how they can turn a mundane skincare routine into an inspiring everyday ritual. For dry skin sufferers, I’ve learnt that there are 3 essential oils that help my skin:

· Geranium

· Lavender

· Frankincense

What are the skin benefits of Geranium essential oil?

If you find me over on Instagram, you’ll see me banging on about geranium and how good it is for you skin. Sourced from the Pelargonium graveolens plant, geranium essential oil can help eliminate dead skin cells and help stimulate new skin growth. Geranium essential oil blends can also be applied to your hair if it needs a little extra love.

I’ve suffered with eczema my whole life, but nothing helps a breakout more than a natural skincare product that contains geranium essential oil. It’s super soothing and also smells heavenly! At Rabbit Nose, we have two products that contain geranium essential oil to help those with dry and sensitive skin. These are WonderBalm and Milk It.

Use WonderBalm as a multi-purpose balm

This whipped cocoa-butter balm is blended with geranium and neroli essential oil and is designed to be applied to your skin, scalp or hair if you’re suffering with dryness. A pea-sized amount can be used to cleanse your face, to treat dry patches or as a facial massage oil. There are so many ways WonderBalm can be used and is the perfect addition to your skincare set.

Milk It has been used and tested by sufferers of eczema and psoriasis. As part of our bath collection, our Milk It Bath Milk contains geranium essential oil that melts into the skin as you bathe.

Sprinkle a small amount of powder into your bathtub as it fills with warm water and soak as it turns into a silky bliss. You can also use the powder in the shower as a light, exfoliating scrub that leaves skin feeling soft and supple.

What are the skin benefits of Lavender essential oil?

Lavender essential oil boasts calming properties that can help soothe dry skin. Lavender essential oil helps protect your skin by balancing your moisture barrier, meaning it does a great job of hydrating your skin when it’s super dry.

Not only that, but lavender is stellar as a natural antiseptic. Just putting my history goggles on....The National Institute of Medicinal Herbalists stated that lavender was used in World War 1 to treat wounds and even to clean hospitals due to its antiseptic properties! To me, that's pretty damning evidence that lavender is a natural antiseptic that can help protect dry skin from infections, especially intense eczema breakouts that are susceptible to skin infections (happened to me many times, unfortunately)!

That’s why we use lavender as one of the main ingredients of our bath salts, to treat your skin when you’re feeling the need to relax and unwind while treating your skin.

Sprinkle Killing Moon Bath Salts into your bath

Our lavender-infused bath salts also contain rosemary and rose essential oils, providing a floral yet earthy scent that can help relax both your body and mind. Killing Moon Bath Salts are designed to help remove dead skin skills and rejuvenate the skin.

What are the skin benefits of Frankincense essential oil?

One of the most luxurious oils, Frankincense essential oil has enriching, balancing and even toning properties. It helps to balance out your natural oiliness while improving suppleness of the skin over time.

Frankincense blends well with lavender and ylang ylang essential oils. When blended perfectly together, they can help improve the appearance of your skin, reducing blemishes, redness and inflammation.
